Which Barcode Format Should You Choose?
Code 128
The most robust, high-density alphanumeric barcode. It can encode all 128 ASCII characters and is the global standard for logistics, supply chain management, and complex internal tracking.
EAN-13 & UPC-A
Essential for retail consumer goods. UPC-A (12 digits) is predominantly used in North America, while EAN-13 (13 digits) is the standard worldwide. Both guarantee POS scannability.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I use these barcodes for commercial products?
Yes, you can generate commercial-grade barcodes. However, for products sold in global retail supply chains (like Amazon, Walmart, or standard grocery stores), you must ensure you have legally licensed the GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) embedded in your EAN-13 or UPC-A barcode from GS1. If using Code 128 or Code 39 for internal inventory management, no license is required.
Why is my barcode generating an error?
Specific barcode symbologies have strict formatting rules. For instance, an EAN-13 barcode requires exactly 12 or 13 numeric digits (the 13th being a check digit). A UPC-A requires 11 or 12 digits. If you enter letters or an incorrect amount of numbers for these retail formats, generation will fail. For mixing letters and numbers, use Code 128 or Code 39.
How do I download and print the generated barcode?
Once generated, simply click the "Download PNG Image" button under the live preview. Ensure you maintain adequate "quiet zones" (the white space padding around the barcode) when placing it on your packaging or shipping labels. For best scannability, we recommend setting the "Image Scale" to "Print Quality" or higher before downloading.
